• How much solar light will be let into the room (transmission)?

• How much solar light will be reflected?

• How much solar heat will be absorbed?

Choosing the right fabric will make sure you can sleep in the dark, protect your floors and furniture from sunlight and/or keep rooms cool.

The openness factor of a fabric will depend on what level of view you want out and what amount of view you want to allow in.

A black-out (solid) fabric will not allow any light through and will have no view out, so good for bedrooms and home cinemas. Translucent (privacy) fabric will allow a little light to penetrate the fabric but will not enable a view out or in, so a good choice for bathrooms and dressing rooms.

A sheer fabric will enable a view out and a limited view in, a popular choice for kitchens, living areas and offices.

Manual Blinds and Curtain Tracks are a less costly choice. However it is good to consider the finished look of roller blind with cables and chains (and their safety for children and pets) and the time required to open and close your blinds or curtains.

It is a good idea at the early stage of a project to consider how the window shading rollers or curtain tracks are going to be installed, and how visible you want them to be.

Recesses and specialist pockets can be specified to ensure that the roller blind tubes or curtain tracks are not exposed.

If recesses and pockets cannot be installed, blind fascia or pelmets can be provided. If the blind rollers are to be exposed, you could consider the beautiful Lutron Palladiom type roller blinds with no exposed cables and architectural sleek metal brackets.

It is much easier and less expensive to install blinds and curtains for standard square vertical windows, however we also have solutions for angular and horizontal windows. Typically these types of windows would use a tensioned type mechanism to pull the blind up, or across, the window.

Tensioned blinds work very well but they always require additional housings and cables to operate.
